Cosmic Scale — Privacy Policy

Effective 9 October 2026

Cosmic Scale ("the app") is published by Sardor Urdushev. This policy explains what information the app handles.

What the app itself collects

Nothing about you. The app has no accounts, no sign-in and no server of its own. What it stores stays on your device: the language you chose, when your Beyond pack and Ultra unlocks expire, which simulations you have unlocked, and whether Cosmic Scale Pro is on. It never leaves your phone. The only things the app sends anywhere are the crash and freeze reports, the usage statistics and the daily notification described next, and what the advertising, purchase and photo services below receive.

Crash and freeze reports

If the app crashes or stops responding, it can send a report to Google's Firebase Crashlytics so the fault can be found and fixed. The report holds technical details of the failure (which part of the app's code was running and which screen was open), the app version, your device's model and Android version, its free memory and storage, and a random installation identifier that Firebase creates. It holds no name, email address or location, nothing you typed, and it is not used for advertising. Firebase processes it for us under Google's terms: see Privacy and Security in Firebase.

Usage statistics

To see which parts of the app people use, the app can send anonymous usage statistics to Google Analytics for Firebase. It records events such as which screens and simulations are opened, how far the welcome tour gets, whether a video was watched to unlock something, whether Pro was bought, and which language is set. It sends no name, email address, location, advertising ID or anything you typed, and Analytics here does not use the advertising ID or ad personalisation. Google Analytics adds the technical details every app report has: the app version, your device's model, Android version and language, your country and city (worked out from your IP address, which Google does not keep), and a random installation identifier. Google processes this for us under its terms: see Privacy and Security in Firebase.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, nothing is collected unless you agree in the consent form that appears when the app starts. Everywhere, you can turn it off in Settings → Share usage statistics, which also deletes what Google Analytics holds for your installation. The statistics are not collected by test builds.

Your approximate location (optional)

The Sky screen can tell you which eclipses you can see from where you are. Only if you tap "Use my location" does the app ask Android for your approximate location (the "approximate location" permission, never your precise one). The app rounds it to about 10 km, keeps it only on your phone, and uses it only to work out what is visible from there. It is never sent to us, to Google Analytics or to anyone else, and the sky is worked out on your phone. You can remove it at any time with "Forget my place" in the Sky screen, or take the permission away in your phone's settings. The Sky alerts are set on your phone with Android's alarm service and need no account or server.

Daily notification

The app can show one notification a day. It uses Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging: the app joins a notification topic, which makes Firebase create a random installation identifier and a message token for your device. Nothing else about you is sent, and the topic holds no personal information. You can turn the notification off in Settings (the app then leaves the topic), or in your phone's notification settings. Firebase processes this for us under Google's terms: see Privacy and Security in Firebase.

Advertising

The app is free and shows ads through Google AdMob, unless Cosmic Scale Pro is on: then the ad SDK is not started at all. To serve and measure ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect and process information such as your device's advertising ID, IP address (from which approximate location can be inferred), device and app information, and interactions with ads. Google's use of this information is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, the app asks for your consent through Google's User Messaging Platform before personalised ads are shown. You can change your choice at any time from About → Privacy choices in the app.

You can also reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ad personalisation, in your device's Google settings.

Purchases

Cosmic Scale Pro is sold through Google Play, as a monthly or yearly subscription or a one-time purchase. Google Play handles the payment; the app never sees your payment details. It only asks Google Play which Pro purchases your Google account owns, to turn Pro on, and keeps that answer on your device. Google's handling of purchases is described in the Google Privacy Policy. You can manage or cancel a subscription in Google Play at any time.

Photos from space agencies

When you open an object's details, the app loads real photographs directly from the servers of NASA (images-assets.nasa.gov), ESA/Hubble (esahubble.org), ESA/Webb (esawebb.org), ESO (eso.org) and NSF NOIRLab (noirlab.edu). Like any website, those servers receive your device's IP address and a standard request for the image. The app sends them nothing else. Their own privacy policies apply to those requests.

Sounds from space missions

When you tap Listen, the app streams that sound or sonification from NASA (nasa.gov), the Chandra X-ray Center (chandra.harvard.edu) or the University of Iowa (uiowa.edu). As with photos, those servers receive your IP address and the request, nothing else. Nothing is streamed until you tap Listen. The tour music is generated on your device.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
