Orrery — Privacy Policy
Effective 9 October 2026
Orrery shows the solar system as it really is, drawn on your phone. It is built so that nothing about you needs to leave it.
What Orrery collects
Orrery itself collects nothing about you. It has no accounts and no servers of its own, it does not store, sell or share personal information, and it does not use your precise location, contacts, photos or microphone. The only data that leaves your device is described under “Ads” and “Analytics” below, and it goes to Google, not to us.
What stays on your device
Your settings — language, time speed, graphics quality and the like — and whether Orrery Pro is unlocked are kept on your phone only, so the app opens the way you left it. Deleting the app deletes them.
What the app downloads
To show photographs, recordings and surface maps, Orrery downloads public files from NASA and the U.S. Geological Survey (for example images.nasa.gov, trek.nasa.gov, gibs.earthdata.nasa.gov). These requests carry nothing about you beyond what any web request does — your device's IP address, seen by the server that answers. Orrery keeps the files it downloads on your device so it need not fetch them again.
Purchases
Orrery Pro is bought through Google Play. Google handles the payment; Orrery never sees your payment details or your Google Account. The app asks Google Play only whether Pro is unlocked. Google's own privacy policy covers the purchase: policies.google.com/privacy.
Ads
Orrery shows ads to people who have not bought Orrery Pro: at most one full-screen ad per session, and an ad you may choose to watch to try a Pro feature once. They are served by Google AdMob. To show and measure ads and prevent fraud, AdMob may collect your device's advertising ID and other device identifiers, your approximate location (from your IP address), how you interact with the ads and the app, and crash and diagnostic information. Where the law requires it (for example in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom) you are asked for your consent on first launch and can change it later. You can reset or turn off personalised ads in your Android settings (Settings → Google → Ads). Orrery Pro removes the ads: no ad is requested or shown to someone who has it. How Google uses this data is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and policies.google.com/privacy.
Analytics
For people who have not bought Orrery Pro, Orrery uses Google Analytics for Firebase to learn how the app is used, so it can be made better: when it is opened, how long a session lasts, which screens are visited, the kind of phone and version of Android, and the country (worked out from the IP address, which Google does not keep). Google gives each installation a random identifier; it is not your name, your email or your Google Account, and it is not shared with us beyond these counts. Analytics starts only after the same consent as the ads, where the law requires it, and stops if you withdraw it. Orrery Pro turns it off: nothing is counted for someone who has it. How Google handles this data is described at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
Sharing
Sharing a still uses the system share sheet, and the image goes only where you send it.
Children
Orrery is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will appear here and in the app, with its date.
